Cajun Paws Animal Relief Center emerged from a simple truth discovered in the chaos of Hurricane Harvey: when communities are torn apart by natural disasters, animals are among the most vulnerable. As families evacuated, thousands of pets, livestock, and wildlife were left stranded in rising waters.
The United Cajun Navy—already on the ground rescuing people—saw the need and answered the call. Cajun Paws was established as a dedicated animal response division, combining the UCN's logistics, volunteer network, and field expertise with specialized animal rescue training and veterinary partnerships.

The United Cajun Navy is one of America's largest volunteer disaster response organizations. Born in the aftermath of the 2016 Louisiana floods, the UCN has grown into a nationwide network of trained civilians who deploy when professional responders are overwhelmed. As a division of the UCN, Cajun Paws leverages their command structure, logistics network, and volunteer force to deliver rapid animal relief.
